Four inches of rear drop takes more than a longer shackle. Belltech 6500 combines replacement front leaf-spring hangers with rear shackles for the manufacturer’s 1988–1998 Chevrolet/GMC C1500 standard-cab, 2WD OBS application. The kit includes hangers, shackles, mounting hardware, two bump stops and a parking-brake cable bracket. Keep the cab and drivetrain restrictions in view when choosing the kit.
Read the exact 6500 guide before booking the lift. Installation removes the original hanger rivets and includes cutting or grinding work around the hanger and frame; Belltech recommends removing the bed for access. Fleetside short-bed and Sportside trucks need bed-brace clearance for the leaf-spring clamp at full travel. The parking-brake cable also needs attention during hanger replacement. A four-inch change still has to clear everything through suspension travel.
Belltech estimates four to five hours. Support the truck on rated stands, control the loaded leaf spring during disassembly, and follow the guide’s torque and tightening sequence. The linked shackle instructions call for hardware rechecks at 10, 100 and 1,000 miles.
