Check the lower arms before planning the air system. This front ShockWave pair belongs on the matching Ridetech Lower StrongArms. The 6.5-inch bellows still needs room through the whole suspension stroke; a clean ride-height photo does not check that clearance.

Fitment

  • Manufacturer-listed 1965-1970 Chevrolet B-body applications, including the exact model/year rows below.
  • Requires matching Ridetech Lower StrongArms, sold separately. An air supply and control system are also separate.
  • Manufacturer-listed models: 1965-1970 Chevrolet Bel Air; 1965-1970 Chevrolet Biscayne; 1969-1970 Chevrolet Brookwood; 1966-1970 Chevrolet Caprice; 1969-1970 Chevrolet Estate; 1965-1970 Chevrolet Impala; 1969-1970 Chevrolet Kingswood; 1969-1970 Chevrolet Townsman.

Specifications

  • Part 11283001; front pair of HQ single-adjustable ShockWaves with 3.6-inch shock stroke and 6.5-inch double-convoluted air springs.
  • Manual dimensions, measured center of bearing to center of bearing: 11.175 inches compressed, 12.975 inches at design ride height, and 14.050 inches extended.
  • Current manufacturer specification is a 1/8-inch NPT air port. Air fittings are not included.

Included

  • Two HQ shocks and air springs, stud-top mounting components, Delrin ball mounts and adjustment hardware.

Before ordering and installation

  • Follow the exact manual to remove the bump-stop bracket, trim the inner spring-pocket lip and clear the original coil-spring retainer stud. Remove the upper stem-bushing cup and enlarge the mounting hole to 3/4 inch.
  • The lower spacers and 1/2-inch mounting bolt come with the required StrongArms, rather than this shock pair. Inventory both kits before dismantling the car.
  • Keep the upper Delrin mount snug while allowing articulation. Check air-spring clearance at full compression and full extension, including exhaust clearance.
  • Do not drive fully deflated or overinflate to obtain ride height. Prevent the bellows from rubbing; do not alter the factory air-spring locking ring or remove the press-in fitting.
  • Use this part's installation and tuning instructions. The exact manual starts rebound adjustment at 12 clicks softer than full stiff; final settings depend on the assembled vehicle.
