Keep the Corvette’s front rotors and brackets in the plan. Wilwood 140-10789-R replaces the original front calipers with red four-piston D8-4 units on the listed 1965-82 disc-brake spindles. It is a caliper, pad and hose kit, so check the condition of the parts you are keeping before the new red hardware goes on.
What is in the box
Two red powder-coated D8-4 four-piston calipers, a front pad set and the 220-7699 stainless braided flex-line kit.
Rotors, hubs, original caliper mounting brackets, original mounting bolts/washers and any required wheel spacers are not supplied. Inspect and retain the correct OE mounting parts.
Wilwood’s current product table lists PM / ProMatrix pads, while DS-650 lists BP-10. Confirm the pad compound supplied before installation and follow the bedding procedure for that compound.
Match it to the build
The exact rows are 1965-67 Corvette C-2, 1968 Corvette C-3 and 1969-82 Corvette C-3, with the factory disc-brake front spindle and appropriate retained rotor/bracket. The specific component table and DS-650 identify D8-4 with four pistons; the page’s generic D8-6 paragraph is not this part’s specification.
Before installation
Check the DS-650 drawing and maintain at least .080 inch between the wheel and caliper in all areas. Wilwood identifies 1965-66 OE JK-code steel wheels and some aftermarket replica alloy wheels as requiring a 3/16-inch or wider spacer. Any required spacer is separate; verify the actual wheel and adequate stud engagement.
Reuse the sound, correct OE caliper bolts and washers, following the manufacturer’s specified torque and DS-650’s thread-locking instructions.
The original rubber hoses do not adapt to these calipers. Fit the supplied braided lines with the correct adapters and verify retention, length and freedom from contact through full steering and suspension travel.
Evaluate the complete brake system and front/rear bias after the change. An experienced brake installer must bleed, bed and perform Wilwood’s minimum test procedure before the car is driven.
