Essential Accessories Every Classic Truck Needs
There are accessories that look cool and accessories that actually make your truck better. After building and driving the '67 C10 to shows across Florida, we have figured out which ones matter and which ones collect dust.
This is not a list of everything you can buy. It is a list of what we actually use and what we see on the best builds at shows.
Mirrors That Match the Build
Stock mirrors on most classic trucks were an afterthought. Small, flimsy, and bolted on like they were optional. Upgrading to round or rectangular aftermarket mirrors that match your truck's style makes a bigger visual impact than most people expect.
On the '67 we went with round mirrors that complement the curves of the cab. Simple change, but it cleaned up the profile and made the truck look more intentional from every angle.
Bed Protection That Works
If you are actually using your bed — hauling parts, loading show gear, throwing tools in the back — you need protection. A bed mat or liner keeps the wood or metal floor from getting chewed up. Bed caps protect the rails from scratches and dents.
We use a rubber mat in the '67 because we load it up when we trailer to shows. It slides in, protects the floor, and comes out when we want the clean look for display.
Lighting That Updates Without Losing Character
LED headlight conversions are one of the best modern upgrades you can make. They fit the stock housings, give you dramatically better visibility at night, and draw less power from the electrical system. The best ones look stock until you turn them on.
LED tail lights are the same story. The flush-mount style gives a cleaner look while keeping the vintage shape. At night shows and cruise-ins, good lighting makes your truck stand out without doing anything else.
The Small Details That Builders Notice
Billet door handles. Flush-mount gas caps. Custom antenna delete plates. Smoothed tailgates. These are the details that separate a clean build from a great one. They cost less than most major mods but they show that you paid attention to every inch of the truck.
At Plant City Airport, the judges noticed our smoothed tailgate before they noticed the LS swap. Details win shows. For more on what makes a build stand out, read our post on customizing your truck with the accessories that matter.
Accessorize the Builder Too
Your truck is not the only thing that needs the right gear. The hat you wear at shows, the shirt you wrench in, the mug on your workbench — it all tells the same story. Vintage Rust gear is built for builders who care about the details on and off the truck.
